Jasprit Bumrah enjoyed a memorable return to ODI cricket, becoming India’s leading wicket-taker in the format on English soil during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston on Tuesday.
Playing his first ODI in 968 days, Bumrah dismissed England captain Harry Brook to claim his 150th ODI wicket and his 31st wicket in the format in England, surpassing Ravindra Jadeja’s tally of 30 to become India’s most successful ODI bowler in the country.

The latest milestone further highlighted Bumrah’s outstanding record in overseas conditions. In just 17 ODIs in England, the pace spearhead has now taken 31 wickets at an impressive average of 21.41 and an economy rate of 4.44. His best ODI figures also came in England, when he tore through the hosts with a sensational 6/19 during India’s 2022 tour. He was also India’s leading pace bowler during the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, finishing with 18 wickets as the team reached the semi-finals.

Brook’s dismissal also brought up Bumrah’s 150th wicket in ODI cricket, making him the third-fastest Indian to the landmark in terms of deliveries bowled.
He reached the milestone in 4,605 balls, behind only Mohammed Shami (4,070) and Kuldeep Yadav (4,513), while achieving the feat quicker than Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan.
The wicket also placed Bumrah in an elite group in international cricket. He became only the third player to complete the rare double of 200 Test wickets, 150 ODI wickets and 100 T20I wickets, joining Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and New Zealand seamer Tim Southee.
Bumrah now has 234 wickets in Tests, 150 in ODIs and 121 in T20Is, underlining his consistency and impact across all three formats.
Earlier, England recovered from a dramatic middle-order collapse to post 258 all out in 47.5 overs. Joe Root top-scored with a fighting 76 and shared a 121-run seventh-wicket stand with Liam Dawson, but Axar Patel’s career-best figures of 4/62 helped India restrict the hosts to a manageable total.
